World Cleanup Day Is Bigger Than One Cleanup

World Cleanup Day is observed every year on September 20 — and in 2026 it falls on Sunday, September 20. It began as a grassroots movement and is now recognized by the United Nations, uniting volunteers across many countries to take action on waste in shared spaces. People take part by joining organized cleanups or running their own, in places such as beaches, rivers, parks, streets and neighborhoods. The United Nations observance for 2026 carries the theme “From Clean Plates to Clean Cities,” putting a spotlight on food waste as one of the largest and most preventable waste streams.

You don't need to buy anything to take part. The movement is about turning intention into action in your own community — and using that momentum to shape choices that continue after the day itself.

Look at the things you buy repeatedly and find one choice you can adjust to better match your priorities.

4

Check What's in the Products You Use

When it matters to you, look for clear ingredient disclosure and relevant third-party standards on the cleaning products you choose.

5

Keep the Habit Going

Treat September 20 as a starting point for cleanup, waste-reduction and community actions you continue through the year.

Wipex Action · First Purchase

Your First Wipex Purchase Can Help Plant a Tree

World Cleanup Day is about turning intention into action. To extend that idea beyond September 20, Wipex is connecting first-time purchases with tree planting.

Make your first Wipex purchase and Wipex will help plant a tree. This is a first-purchase action, separate from participating in World Cleanup Day — you can take part in the movement without buying anything.

Small Everyday Choices Can Be Part of a Bigger Plan

Some people use World Cleanup Day as a moment to review the products they buy again and again. When you're choosing cleaning products, it can help to weigh factors like ingredient transparency, the standards a product meets, the materials it uses, the format, and how often you replenish it. If that's a choice you're making anyway, here's where Wipex fits.

Explore EWG Verified® Cleaning Solutions from Wipex

Several Wipex products carry the EWG Verified® mark from the Environmental Working Group. A product with this mark has met EWG's standards for ingredient safety and transparency — it avoids EWG's listed ingredients of concern, discloses its full ingredient list, and follows EWG's criteria for how ingredients are used and labeled.

What EWG Verified® is — and isn't: it relates to ingredient standards and transparency. It is not an environmental certification, does not mean a product is a disinfectant or EPA registered, and is a separate attribute from the plant-based cloth used in some wipes. Not every Wipex product is EWG Verified®.

Make Better Habits Easier to Keep

Lasting change is less about one big effort and more about small routines that stick. Choose products intentionally, keep recurring supplies organized, use formats that fit your real needs, and review what you buy on repeat. As a practical example, a cleaning routine works best as a simple chain — wipes → refills → dispensers → replenishment — but the bigger idea is the same for any habit: make the right choice the easy one to repeat.

Your World Cleanup Day Action Checklist

A quick, practical list to take part on September 20 — and to keep the momentum afterward.

  • Find a local cleanup, or plan your own.
  • Pick a community area to help clean — a beach, park, street, riverbank or trail.
  • Invite friends, coworkers or neighbors to join you.
  • Review one recurring household or business purchase.
  • Check whether that product's ingredients are clearly disclosed.
  • Look for relevant third-party standards such as EWG Verified® where it matters to you.
  • If it fits your needs, make your first Wipex purchase and take part in the tree-planting action.
  • Choose one cleanup or waste-reduction habit to continue after September 20.

You can complete most of this checklist without spending anything. Participation in World Cleanup Day is independent of any purchase.

The most direct way to make a difference is to show up. Find a local cleanup, organize your own, safely pick up litter in an appropriate area, and bring friends, coworkers or community members along. This is community action — no Wipex event and no purchase required.
